A Little Restless

As I lay in this hotel room wondering why I didn’t complain about the air conditioner, I can’t help but think that I will not sleep at all tonight. Not to say that is unusual for me to just stay up from one day to the next without sleeping. As a matter of fact, it is more of the norm!

Luckily, my daughter fell fast asleep after she gave me a complete history of fluid dynamics. However, I just can’t seem to sleep in the stuffy hotel room.

When we got here, We had to park right under our 2nd floor room between stair cases on each side and walk about 400 feet, then up the stair case and back 400 feet to our room. Low and behold, after dragging all our gear up that terrific hike, the key did absolutely nothing. I called the front desk to ask for help, and they told me to come back and get another. I was not happy because I did not want a trial and error session, let alone, another 2 hikes back and forth. Plus, We were trying to rush in the first place in order to use the bathroom.

I told the lady I wanted a different room and one close to our car instead. Well, I ended up with one right next to our car. However, the A/C does nothing. It is colder outside than in the room. This probably would not bother me usually, but the same thing happened 2 days ago in the same hotel chain 100 miles up the I10. Also, I usually book the family suite every time. They know me because we stay at the same place all the time. Well, when I checked in, the room number was different, and I have stayed in all 4 suites, so I was confused. Well, the room was completely wrong. So, I went downstairs after dragging all of our stuff back to the car, and the girl told me that the suites were booked. I told here I booked the suite weeks in advance with the front desk. After a few minutes checking her records, it seems that someone just changed our reservation and we got a double bed with a sofa. She appologized after I told her I wanted at least 2 beds, and she sent me on our way. I brought everything inside and turned the A/C on- I thought. Well, after a few minutes I noticed nothing happening. By then, my wife and kids were ready to settle down. I called the front desk and told her that the A/C wasn’t working, however, the one in the room next to is was pouring cold air out at a ferocious rate. My wife wanted to move because it was already uncomfortable and it was only going to get hotter, but the kids were settled and I just told the lady to forget it. Luckily, my daughter likes it a little warm in the room, and it did not hamper her performance at her meet.

Fast forward to today. It seems that nothing has chamged. I am still in a room without an A/C. The only difference was that the other room was boiling hot and we had 4 people in it adding even more heat to the situation. We normally stay in that same hotel every other month for 2 days at a time, but this is the first, and also the last for this hotel. I might even consider changing chains. Anyhow, I am just ranting because I can’t sleep. However, I do wish that these hotels would give a bit better quality because the prices do not reflect the difference in service that I see when I compare the hotels from this chain in other states. The other states ( Texas, Atlanta, Missisippi) are like 5 star resorts compared to the last 2 here in Louisiana, and the price is just the same.

Anyhow, it is almost getting close to wakeup time, so it is almost over. I am very excited about tomorrow’s Science Fair, and that is allowing me to deal with the issues.

Has anyone been dealing or have dealt with issues like this with hotel stays? I would like to hear your take on it.

Wow! I am sitting here ranting about trivial stuff, and I now notice that explosions have rocked Belgium. Man, I have nothing to be complaining about. I have the Belgians in my thoughts tonight, and I pray for the casualties and injuries to be minimal. It is certainly not something civilized societies should have to wake up to every morning.

Keep cranking,
